New Finds in Magdala
I always enjoy reading Antonio Lombatti’s Web site and Blog, both the rich mixture of news and analysis he brings out as well as the chance to practice my Italian a bit. Antonio and I have our sharp disagreements on the matter of the Talpiot Tomb, but in recent personal e-mail exchanges we are trying to understand one another more fully, despite differences.
I wanted to highlight here his recent post “New Finds in Magdala” that has short English introduction plus links to a full report in Italian with over thirty lovely photos of the latest discoveries of the Franciscans, under the direction of Michele Piccirillo at the Galilean coastal city of Midgal, known also as Taricheae in Roman times. The team is excavating a new area of about 500 square meters with amazing preliminary results. It looks like the “tiny Jewish fishing village,” a phrase that discounts all that Josephus reports, is awakening to the 21st century.
